In the olden days, Finland had a blacksmith in almost every village –and at least in every mansion. Following the rise of industrialisation the number of blacksmiths collapsed in Finland. However, over the past few decades a new appreciation for different kinds of handwork has arisen.

 

After decades of silence, the old blacksmith shop near the brewery at the Malmgård Mansion is again stirring with activity. Jari Heino has begun blacksmithing at Kartanonpaja Oy (Mansion’s Blacksmith Shop Ltd). There are no official opening hours but if the blacksmith is around, you are welcome to visit and become familiar with this traditional handwork. In any case you can stop by to check out and purchase forged steelwork at the Mansion’s Shop.
